The Beneficial and Controversial Use of a Tracking Device In advertising, tracking devices can be sold to companies in the form of software or small tracking chips for security purposes or keeping track of a specific object. That in itself sounds like company protocol, to ensure the security of highly sensitive information that the company may have in their possession. However, a debate was ensued, when word got out about that employers having tracking devices injected in their employees bodies or are using the tracking software to try to find out what object was purchased, that there should be a more precise way of tracking others without the risk of having private information exposed to the public eye. Some view that tracking devices, in a biblical sense, signify “the age of evil in which humans must take the Mark of the Beast.” (Lewen) This implies, in a cacophonic way, that tracking devices are nothing more than evil corruption that has taken part in society, but in order to survive in a world of social Darwinism. Physicians, that have seen the advertisement of the tracking device, can use them to “identify a patient using a tracking chip that has already been embedded in them and gain access to their medical history” in emergency cases (John Halamka). It may be beneficial in the physician’s point of view, however others view a tracking device as a consequence, because it means that they longer have the security of being anonymous and in some cases that can be dangerous. Tracking chips can be advertised to those who use them for purposes such as protecting sensitive material or for medical reasons, but at the cost of a person’s privacy, moral values, and their protection. There still remains the fact that society is still using tracking devices for other purposes.
