The geography of Egypt and the importance of Egypt is vital in understanding the concept of why Egyptians worshiped the Nile so much. The ancient Egyptians divided the land into two parts. The Red Land and the Black Land. The red land was dry and hot; it was the desert area of their country, which divided Egypt from neighbouring countries. It also provided a source where metals and semi-precious stones were discovered. The black land was the fertile strip on each side of the Nile River. It was used for growing crops, because of its rich layer of black silt, which was deposited there every year after the Nile flooded. The Nile was the Egyptians life source and was therefore important to them. The Nile was Egypt’s lifeblood. As Herodotus once said, “ The gift of the Nile.” Everything depended on the river. The river provided food to eat, water to drink, and soil to allow for crops to grow. Some Food’s found in the Nile were; wheat, beans, lentils, leaks, and onion. Also, fruits were obtained from the Nile such as melons and grapes. It also provided a home for many diverse animals. Animals that lived around the Nile included a diverse range of birds, fish, cattle, sheep’s and goats. The Nile was also a means of transport between places in the ancient times. The Nile was a ‘God’ to the Egyptians everything depended on it.

The Egyptians had many God’s and were very religious. Re was one of the most talented and powerful God’s. Re was the Sun God. He was the God of Heliopolis and symbolised the white crown. Re ruled the sky and decided who should live forever. The ancient Egyptians also believed that he travelled through the underworld at night. In the underworld, Re appeared as a man with the head of a ram. The sun could never die. Another famous God was Horus. Horus was the God of the Pharaoh. He symbolised the Boat of Ra and Upper Egypt.
