The Invisible Man

Invisibility is something that science and technology has yet not produced successfully! To be invisible is like defying the forces of gravity. It is like contradicting with the nature of things that have existed as long as humans have come in to existence on this planet! No man has yet managed to walk, talk and breathe completely hidden from his surroundings, in real life that is! But in H.G. wells main character in his book “the Invisible man” has managed to do the unthinkable! He has managed to break out of the standards set by science, technology and society in general! However, invisibility can also be attained in the metaphorical sense rather than the literal meaning!  The main character in the book “The Invisible man” is portrayed as an individual out of norms of the little town/society!



First of all, the appearance and the clothing of the main character of this book emphasize the thesis! He “wore a dark-brown velvet jacket with a high, black, linen-lined collar turned up about his neck” (Wells). The color brown is a pretty neutral and warm color and blends in with nature quite easily just like the texture of stone. Also, he is covered from neck to the bottom of his waist with this jacket which emphasizes that the main character doesn’t want to stand out by wearing clothes that give a bright reflection rather he chooses something he can get away with without too many people noticing him! Usually when celebrities go about their regular life, they try to blend in with the general population by wearing warm colors. The same stands for prisoners or people who have something to hide, they wear dark and neutral color fabric that easily blends in with the surroundings and does not give them too much exposure! Wearing this in a town that has people like Mrs. Hall who welcomes strangers like him and doesn’t hide anything simply outdates the main character from the standards and general attitude of the general population in the town!
