The foundation of America was built by immigrants who were escaping the oppressions they faced in their own countries. This ideology has been passed along for many years, since immigrants today, come to America for that very reason. America stands for freedom, the ability to do what one wills, as long as that will brings no further harm to another individual. Many places around the world, people must fear their governments. As a result, many flea to where ever possible, in order to seek better circumstances for themselves and future generations. In the years past, we have experienced a great influx in immigrants, and more so, individuals who perpetrate our borders, coming to this country illegally. These immigrants make many positive contributions to our country: they make a commitment to dirty occupations, they contribute to our social security, and create a unique diversity within this country. As a culture, seeking to better understand these individuals’ contributions would be the ideal, as opposed to pointing out their defiance and infiltration.
Many have misconceptions about who illegal immigrants are. When hearing the phrase illegal immigrant, most would imagine a thief or a felon, who is extremely dangerous and must be censored at all times. Contrary to this stereotype, the reality is that illegal immigrants are hard working and loyal, two attributes most American citizen’s lack. Eduardo Porter illustrates in his essay, a story of an illegal immigrant, “Since illegally crossing the Mexican border into the United States six years ago, Angel Martinez has done backbreaking work, harvesting asparagus, pruning grapevines and picking the ripe fruit.” People fear that illegal immigrants are in fact taking many jobs away from American citizens.
