According to Robert Watson -the National Causes of Global Warming- July 19, 2007. Global warming means that the overall temperature of the earth is changing and getting to be warmer than it was before.
Causes of global warming can be broken down into two categories: Natural and Man Made. a. Naturally the Earth’s atmosphere is designed to trap a certain amount of heat. Heat (radiation) travels from the sun, penetrates the atmosphere and reaches earth. Then the heat from earth travels back into the atmosphere. The gases in the atmosphere stop some of the heat from escaping. These gases are called Green House gases. Without these Green House gases Planet Earth would not be able to sustain life because the heat from the sun would not warm the earth. Green House gases consists of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and miscellaneous other gases.
b. Howdo humans attribute to Global Warming? Technology is the main culprit.
1). According to Ecobridge: in 2002 power plants emitted about 40% of carbon dioxide in
theU.S. About 33% of carbon dioxide comes from cars and buildings give off about 12%.
While carbon Dioxide is the principle Green House gas, methane is second most
important. US Emissions Inventory 2004 levels of atmospheric methane rose 145% in the
last100 years. Some sources of methane are rice patties, bacteria in bags and fossil fuel
production.
Some affects Global Warming is having on the planet. a. Themelting of polar ice caps. Some scientists agree that the polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, and some disagree. According to Environmental Graffiti there are for hazards that exist with the melting of the polar ice caps.
1). Sealevels will rise. There are about 5,773,000 cubic miles of water in the ice caps. If all that ice were to melt completely that would raise the sea level about 230 feet!
2). Meltingice caps will throw the global ecosystem out of balance. The ice caps...
