The Truth in Evolution
When deciding the answer to the origins of life, creationism and evolution are brought into subject. Both have their own answers to the origins of life. Over time, evolution has made an impact with new evidence that shows creationism is a misguided truth to the origins of life. In response, creationists believe the evolutionary theory is the invention of the devil and specifically designed to overthrow the church of Christ (Kitcher 192). Through the evidence of natural selection, common ancestry, and fossil records, evolution will prove itself to be the truth behind the origins of life.
Creationists argue that evolution is just a “theory” and cannot be proven. Since proving evolution cannot be accomplished in a few lifetimes, creationists believe that proving evolution is impossible. They believe that since you cannot see evolution occur, then evolution is false, but their “theory” is wrong. Arguing evolution is “just a theory, not a fact” reflects a misunderstanding of the meaning of theory (Goodman 7). In science, a theory is not a guess or a hunch—it is an explanation of natural phenomena that has been backed up by observations, experiments, and inferences. Theories do not become upgraded to facts as supportive data accumulate, they simply become stronger theories….evolution is a very strong theory (Goodman 7). The proof of evolution occurring is something that cannot be proven in a few lifetimes. Evolution not only is a gradual process as a matter of fact; it has to be gradual if it is to do any explanatory work (Dawkins par 15). Common sense says, if we see small changes today within species, that small changes over a long time will become large changes. There is evidence of evolution; more than most people know.
First, evolution is true through natural selection; the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tends to survive and produce more offspring. Johnson, the author of Darwin on Trial and creationist,...
