I found my article to very enlightening. John Ryan, the author of the article, found that there are three key skills that will help you succeed in business. One is you have to been driven by an inspiring vision. A great thought out vision has power to inspire and clarify individuals or even organizations. The second key skill is communication. You must have good communication with your co-workers, employees, and clients. You shouldn’t just send out a memo or email on your thoughts or ideas. The manager should have a discussion that allows others to ask questions or state concerns, it gives you an opportunity to listen and make a better outcome for all involved. The final key skill is judgment. Mr. Ryan states that your judgment ultimately becomes your legacy. Good judgment calls can lead an organization on a new path when the current path is a wrong one. Your judgment is also essential when choosing the right people in your organization. It is also important to place the right people with the right positions within the organization and be able to adapt to the ever changing opportunities in the business.
This article is a summarization of all the chapters we have discussed. In each of them we have covered ethics, manager’s roles, teamwork, communication, etc. Such as, in Chapter 2 under the question “What is ethical behavior?” it states, Personal values help determine individual ethical behavior. I believe many people tend to work better under someone who they know they can trust and has good ethical judgments. Also in Chapter 7, we discussed the importance of being able to adapt and change with the business to make a better business. I feel a business that still does thing that are considered “the old way” only hurts their productivity. Such as inventory, if a business does use the new programs that automatically take out the inventory as it is used, not only is wasting valuable...
