In today’s world most people turn to the television for some relaxation and an escape from the real world. It’s when the television world is brought into the real world by those people who are influenced by what they see and hear does it ever become a problem…or does it? It is true that most of the ways people are influenced by television are negative ways, but not all are bad. People are influenced by believing what they see or hear is real, and than making it their own belief. People are influenced subconsciously; they not only see an act on television and decide “hey, that’s a good idea...I'll do that”, but they see something so often that it becomes implemented into their minds as commonplace. Other things such as exaggerations, distortion of reality and flat out lies do not always come with a disclaimer stating “this is an electronic signal you are observing created for your entertainment”, nor do reality shows or newscasts which might state opinions of others. In the paragraphs to come we shall explain how television affects society in certain specific aspects such as violence and politics.
When Baird invented the television it is unlikely that he had imagined the scope of its use. In this new age of science and technology, television has proved to be the most important and cherished medium for entertainment and information exchange. The radio had and still has its following but it can in no way compare with the near mass-hysteria with which television is greeted. Television has gained such heights of popularity that for a very large number of people it has become an essential part of their lives.
Television is popular among people of various age groups. This also includes children, who are perhaps the main prospects of television. The children are the ones who are much more exposed to television, because they take birth in this world, where television is a common household commodity. Thus, inevitably the television has and is influencing the children....
