My class watched the movie “Food INC”. We explained how this movie and the food industry today is comparable to the meat industry in Upton's Sinclair “The Jungle” we read. There are many similarities during the two time periods. As well as differences to. There's things that I think need to change, and thing that appalled me as well.
The first thing was the similarities between the two. The first is how both are attacking the type of environment that these animals live in. And the type of environment for the workers and products being produced. Important questions are pointed out in both also. Questions like the types of benefits and the costs of the corporations to run. There are many similar things between these two.
There are also differences between the two. You could say that they are different by how Upton Sinclair focus's on the workers mostly and how the movie focuses on the animals and how the food is made. Those are the differences.
The most appalling thing about The Jungle was the details and description of what happened to the workers. How they would be brutally injured and payed so little. The most appalling thing about the movie was how they treat the animals. Also how are food is prepared and the type of conditions it is made in. those things appall me.
A big question that is talked about is “has anything changed in the food industry?” And I do think things have changed. We now have safety inspections regularly, and also better safety equipment. There is a much closer eye kept on how are food is made now, but after watching that movie your doubt rises.
In conclusion, my class watched the movie “Food INC”. I just explained how this movie and the food industry today is comparable to the meat industry in Upton's Sinclair “The Jungle” we read.
