Transition to College


For most kids, the transition from high school to college can be one of the hardest things to do. They are for once on their own in a place that does not keep you in check but makes you responsible for yourself. It is a whole different lifestyle than what most are used to. The differences are vast. My transition from high school to college went with out too many problems. I was able to adjust relatively easily. Before coming to this school, there were things that I expected and things that I didn’t. Through out the first 10 weeks, some things turned out being much harder or much easier than I first expected.
Before coming here, I thought that I was immediately going to be swamped with work everyday from each one of my classes. I though I was going to end up spending every waking moment rolling out papers and keeping just up to date on my assignments. While it is true that the work is more than I experienced during high school, it is nothing like I believed it might be. Except for during a short season of baseball in the fall and a full spring season, I have plenty of time to do what I need to. As it turns out, I have much more free time here that I did during high school. I do get assigned papers but the professors understand the college environment and give enough time for me to complete the assignments without having to cram it in day to day. But one thing you need have when dealing with free time is the ability to construct a working schedule that you can abide by. Life in college is not nearly as structured as it was in high school. You have to create that structure in order to keep up. I made the mistake of putting off some of my assignments a while ago without making a schedule for myself and I ended up having one week where I worked nonstop everyday to complete the assignments on time.
