Violence and video games
Researchers and the media believe that violence in video games is much to blame for the excessive violence in our society. In video games, it is sometimes possible to be a violent character to hurt others, and that tends to make people think the players are more violent. This is very upsetting to me. I do not believe that violence in video games is to blame for violence in society. Video games allow us to vent and release some of the built up anger that we have. We do not want to hurt anyone. People just want to play the game and release some anger so they are no longer mad. People that have no means to vent their anger, sometimes resort to violence in unhealthy ways. Violent video games do not create violent people but more often that violent people may be attracted to violent video games. You can not say that wealthy people eat caviar so if you eat caviar then you will become wealthy. That is not the way it works. If the media tells it, that is what people tend to believe. It seems the media is trying to find someone to blame. The media is trying to gain interest and viewers out of it. I believe the media just gives people who are violent what they want, along with society and the public’s general ideas about the violent games. People perhaps use this as a scapegoat.
There has been research and reports done on violence in video games. Most of it is negative and always attracts attention. People never think about what is being said; they just automatically believe it. I have found that over the past fifteen years, as video games have increased in popularity, youth violence has decreased drastically. When video games became a major part of many young people's lives and were enjoyed in record numbers, homicide arrest rates fell drastically among juveniles, school shootings remained extremely rare, and students had less of a chance of being killed at school.
