an outline of the risk of using Malathion according to the four steps of risk assessment presented in Ch. 4 Figure 4.1:
o Hazard identification
o Dose-response
o Exposure
o Risk characterization
Decide your vote for the city council based on your outline.
Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper that presents your evaluation of the risk of Malathion based on your outline. Explain the reasoning for your vote based on the four steps of risk assessment. Consider any relevant political, social, and economic aspects invol
As part of the city council, Malathion is very toxin to not only humans but animals. I have came to this conclusion by generating an outline of the four steps of risk. The hazard identification of Malathion is an insecticide that is used primarily on crops to control insects. By using this people are not exposed to this insecticide unless they are in the vicinity of the area that is being sprayed. It brakes down quickly when exposed to the elements like soil, water, and sunlight. The risk will be the spray that is in the air, or on surfaces that have been touched. It affects how the brain and the nervous system work. Since Malathion is an insecticide it needs to be spayed at dusk to reduce the harm factor of the animals, and other insects. The dose response can cause brain damage. Malathion can cause DNA abnormalities in human blood cells. The exposure may cause skin irritation, The dose can really irritate asthma patients, or act as a lung irritant. Exposure to excessive amounts can cause difficulty breathing, tightness of chest, cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, blurred vision, headaches, dizziness, los of consciousness, and even death. If treatment is administered quickly Malathion has no long term affects; while low level exposure has few, or no health problems.
The risk of spraying Malathion for mosquito control in the center of the town at the low concentrations associated with mosquito spraying will be kept to a minimum by giving...
