Many events have happened throughout history that have changed many lives and have
affected different people. Some have changed us for the good while others have impacted us in a
negative way. The year 1995 was a big year in general, many events took place that year but
there are three main ones that come to mind The Oklahoma City Bombing, Nerve gas attack in
Tokyo subway, and the release of Windows 95.
The Oklahoma City bombing took place on April 19, 1995; it’s said to be one of most
devastating pre 911 attacks on US soil. The bombing claimed 168 lives and injured more than
680 people the blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings within a 16-block radius, destroyed or
burned 86 cars, and shattered glass in 258 nearby buildings causing at least an estimated $652
million worth of damage. Within 90 minutes of the explosion, Timothy McVeigh was stopped by
an Oklahoma State Trooper, Forensic evidence quickly linked him and Terry Nichols to the
attack and within days both were charged. Michael and Lori Fortier were later identified as
accomplices. McVeigh had detonated an explosive-filled Ryder rental truck parked in front of the
building his co-conspirator, Terry Nichols, had assisted in the bomb preparation. Motivated by
his hatred of the government and angered by what he thought was a mishandling of the 1993 Waco siege and the Ruby Ridge incident in 1992, McVeigh timed his attack to coincide with the
second anniversary of the deadly fire that ended the siege at Waco. Today the Oklahoma City
National Memorial is dedicated to the victims of the bombing an annual remembrance is held at
the same time as the explosion occurred.
The sarin attack on the Tokyo subway happened on March 20, 1995 killing thirteen
people, severely injuring fifty and causing temporary vision problems for nearly a thousand
