Fast food is much popularized in people’s life these days. Fast food restaurant, such as McDonald’s, KFC can be seen everywhere in down town. In fact, the number of fast food restaurant, especially McDonald’s, has been increased rapidly in Japan. After the McDonald’s opened first Japanese branch in Tokyo in 1971, the number of restaurants has been grown consistently so reached about 3000 by 1999. This mean the life without fast food is impossible in Japan. Every Japanese might have eaten fast food at least once. People can wonder why fast food is so popular and influential in Japan. Fast food has become popular in Japan since it is convenient, delicious and can experience something different from Japanese traditional one and has had both positive and negative influences on Japanese.
Fast food attracted many people these days due to some reasons. The first reason why fast food has attracted people is its convenience. Some people think that the time to prepare and eat meal is waste of time since there are too many things for them to do. This kind of people has wanted fast and convenient food and fast food is really thing they need. Good taste of fast food is other reason fast food is popular. In fact, young Japanese prefer Japanese traditional food, such as, tofu and sushi to western style fast food because they think fast food is more delicious than traditional one. The other reason fast food has attracted Japanese is it is very different from Japanese traditional one. In fact, in the point of product, McDonald’s hamburger is not just food product. Because McDonald’s is one of the symbols of United States of America, when consumers purchase a meal at McDonald’s, they buy both food and American culture. Japanese can experience another style of meal by buying hamburger. In short, convenience, tastiness, and difference are main reasons of success of fast food in Japan.
