Wind Power is the process by which the wind is used to generate mechanical power or electricity. Winds are caused by the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the irregularities of the earth’s surface, and the rotation of the earth. According to the map, there is no on land wind power that exceeds class 5. I see there is no reason for a wind powered turbines in New York State.
The wind power currently is not strong enough to store power for a huge city like New York City or Albany. According to the “Quick Facts”, wind power might be a source of energy needed for the future, but for the modern time its clearly useless. The wind turbines would need a higher initial investment and takes longer to construct. The fossil-fueled turbines cost less, construct faster, and run on commonly used fuels.
There are some other drawbacks of wind turbines, for example the wind might not blow when energy is needed. Wind cannot be stored unless batteries are used and wind might not come on the exact time to be store. Wind turbines are never located near the area it is needed, it is usually remote from the cities.
Wind energy is not the most essential thing needed now. If the turbines would take years finish it, would not effect our modern lives now. So why should New Yorkers pay tax dollars for a useless cause. These are the reasons I believe wind powered turbines are completely unnecessary.
