What aspects of the WestJet IT situation did she assess in order to respond to the CEO's concern, and why do you think they are important?
The aspects of the WestJet situation Cheryl assess to relate to them whether or not the company had an adequate IT infrastructure was the company’s degree of resources and budget, and contrast the costs and employees by their expertise in the industry. (Munro, M., & Khan, S. (2013). Looking at these is important in order to show whether or not WestJet can manage an IT program better than the program they have now.
By looking at the budget, Cheryl can decided if WestJet has the money for this project and sustain the current projects. By looking at their resources, it enables Cheryl to determine how effective they are and what system is using them. (Munro, M., & Khan, S. (2013).
Summarize and critique Smith's assessment.
Cheryl was introduced to a proposal of a project establish a PMO (project management office). Cheryl’s opinion and suggestion is that a PMO is not needed, and would cost the company money and time. (Munro, M., & Khan, S. (2013). Instead Cheryl decided to hire 2 IT benchmarking and performance specialists so she could have them compare the company to other similar companies, in the airline field. (Munro, M., & Khan, S. (2013). In doing this, the specialists’ concluded that WestJet was on point within; the total number of employees and budget in relation to the industry and number of excellent technical personnel (Munro, M., & Khan, S. (2013).
Cheryl decided that the company’s IT organization had been developed according to an IT’s group’s internal functions of planning, building, operating, maintaining and governing (in the way they felt more comfortable).
The way she determined which way would make the company make more money. By benchmarking she could determine the current situation of WestJet, and the possibility of advancement and improvement. (Munro, M., & Khan, S....
