He wrote a play called The Christmas Angle which Landon carter ended up being a part of when he met Jamie. Landon decided to invite Jamie to the school dance because he had nobody else to invite. After the dance Landon could not keep his mind of Jamie. He wondered why he liked her so much and why her. Jamie on the other hand lost her mother to cancer at a very young age. Jamie listened to her fathers every word and if her father did not like something she would take it to heart.
