In the novel “Roll of Thunder Hear my cry” by Mildred D. Taylor an important character in text is Cassie. This is shown through many incidents throughout the novel whereby Cassie contributes to many parts of the story.
An example showing how Cassie is an important character is how the reader sees the story through her eyes. Throughout the novel the story revolves around her as we read her thoughts about important events. This contributes a lot to the story as it helps us understand how life was like in the 1930 being black and the hardship they went through. A quote from the text that shows that the story is from Cassie’s point of view is “‘I betcha Mama’s gonna “clean” you, you keep it up.’ I grumbled. ‘Ah, Cassie leave him be, ‘Stacey admonished,”.
Another example showing Cassie is an important character is how she is in almost every event of the novel. One of these events was the part when she and the other Logan kids were digging ditches in the road to trap the Jefferson Davis bus. In this scene the Jefferson Davis driver splashes the Logan children using puddles on the road every time he gets a chance. The Logan children decide to pull off a prank of trapping the bus as revenge. This prank consists of digging a ditch in a puddle so when the bus driver attempts to splash the Logan kids the bus will get stuck in the ditch. A quote that will support how Cassie is an important character is “Then, grabbing the only shovels, he handed one to me, holding on to the other himself, and directed Little Man and Christopher-John to each take two buckets.” This quote supports how Cassie is an important character in the novel as it shows her contributing to a significant event in the story.
Yet another example is how she is one of the Logan children. The Logans are the main family the story revolves around. The people included in this family are Mama (Mary Logan), Papa (David Logan), Stacey, Christopher-John, Little Man, Big Ma and Cassie. All of these characters...
