“21st Century Slaves” Reflection
I am against slavery of any kind. I feel that no matter what the circumstances are, no person should ever have to deal with being a slave, or being trafficked and forced to sell your body. I’m not exactly sure what I am able to do to make a big impact on the issue, but It only makes sense that any change must start out with a single person ready to fight the cause.
In the “21st Century Slaves” packet, I learned that slavery is still occurring in our nation today. Their debts never end up getting paid off anyways because of the high interest rates that are being charged, and the costs of the child’s food and shelter.
I also learned that many women are being trafficked across the world to be used for sex. This type of business is a horrible operation people have going on. Women are promised high paying jobs by organizers of the business. The jobs are usually promised in another part of the country or somewhere in the world. Some people force these women to work in bars or clubs to earn them money. Other woman are just being used as slaves or workers at the kidnapper’s house and forced to do everyday duties. The women get severely beaten if they so something wrong or try to escape.
I don’t think that anything I would be able to do would make a large enough impact to greatly change the way of the slave buyer’s way of living. But, if I wanted to, I could be the person to start a chain reaction so many other people would join in and protest the operations.
If I was able to find out certain stores or companies that used slavery to do their business, I might stop shopping at the stores, or stop purchasing certain companies products for a little while, but...
