Advice for the 10 year old
So you're 10 years old and probably in 5th grade, right? Well have you started thinking about college and what you want to be when you grow up? Let's start by putting down the crayons and getting serious. Don't put it off until the last minute, or in a blink of the eye you will be in your junior or senior year without having done any pre planning to relieve the stress. What? You haven't selected your favorite colleges or taken your SAT diagnostic tests yet? Hmm I can see we have a long way to go, but I’m glad I found you before it were too late. Let's not waste any more time.
I know what you are thinking, "I am only 10 years old! What’s the rush?" Well believe me you're going to thank me later for turning you away from playing with your action figures and thinking about girl’s pigtails to more important things. If you start now you might just get into the college of your choice. How about working on your high school reading list? "Goosebumps" just won't cut it if you want an 800 on your verbal. Believe me. Plus I know an excellent mathematics tutor to get you started on the road to a perfect math score.
I guess your elementary school doesn't have much in the way of debating and public speaking, but you can gather your friends and discuss super string theory or metaphysics, right? Drag them all away from that riotous game of Hide and Seek they are sure to be playing and sit them down in a circle. Be a leader. Just throw in a few fancy words and you will have them nodding their heads in agreement. Remember debating is all about speaking confidently, and confidence wins minds. So even if you want a cookie speak with poise about how it is your right to have one, and you will have your mom handing over the entire cookie jar. With the right grooming you could be president one day. What are you waiting for? Go get your CollegeBoard and UCAS accounts now!
