When researching Christian Science I found that it is a deeply faith based religion depending mostly on the power of prayer.
Christian Scientist also spend a great deal of time studying the works of Mary Baker Eddy, who wrote Science and Health with the Key to Scriptures.
Mary Baker Eddy spent most of her time in 1866 reading the bible while healing from an injury. It was during this time that she discovered that prayer was similar to the way light dissolves darkness. She was suffering from internal injuries when she read in her Bible of the account when Jesus healed the man with the withered hand. Her doctors, friends and pastors could not believe it. Unfortunately, she relapsed. Again she asked for her Bible, this time she read of the healing of the man with palsy by Jesus Christ. Again she was healed. Continued study and prayer healed her permanently from her injuries with no use of medication.
Mary began to furiously study her Bible and take notes of the miracles that took place. She once had found the miracles to be apprehensible, but later realized that they were attainable. She founded her church in 1879 stating that it was primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.
Today’s Christian scientist still follow the basic idea of taking all of their problems physical or other wise to Jesus Christ. There are countless testimonies of the power of prayer.
