Functional Areas of Business
Managers do more than just manage people. Managing involves managing different areas of a business as well. Managers are also responsible for enabling learning by the employees. The roles of managers in the different areas of business depend on the functional area of the business. The different roles of managers in the different functional areas of business will be analyzed and the common functional areas of business will be noted and briefly defined. The ways that a manager can enable the learning by employees will also be detailed.
According to Suttle (2014), “many companies base their organizational structures on various functional areas, creating departments around these functions and assigning responsibilities according to employees’ job titles and experience”. This simply means that there are different departments based on the functional areas of a business. Also according to Suttle (2014), “a functional organizational structure groups employees by various skills and expertise, leading to greater efficiency”. Some of the basic functional areas of a typical business include Human Resources, Marketing, Customer Service, and Accounting.
The Human Resources (HR) department is responsible for hiring people for different positions within a company and ensuring that they are properly trained in order to perform well in the position for which the employees were hired. According to Suttle (2014), “marketing professionals determine the products that their companies introduce to the marketplace, often using marketing research surveys to determine what consumers need and want”.
The customer service area of function is used to allow customers to have direct contact with someone within the company. This communication could be in the form of a complaint from the customer or even an inquiry about a product or service that the company provides....
