First, I need to tell you that our community is in a desperate need of a change fast. At the moment, our community was forced to close many businesses due to the economic decline; unemployment is at its all time high, and many good hardworking people lost their jobs as a result. At the moment, no one knows how long this economic dilemma is going to last. Our existing situation could last for years before it is resolved and we as the board of trustees can’t wait any longer. Our prayers have been answered and I am one hundred percent for the development of the new shopping center on the outskirt of town. This new shopping mall is imperative to our survival as a community, it will create hundreds of jobs and aid in the growth of our town, not to mention the great tax revenue it will generate for our towns other project that had to be placed on hold. This development will save many that lost their jobs and are on the edge of their financial failure. Few concerns are raising however that the new shopping center will steal the customer base that the small businesses have in town, and somehow the new development will lessen the town tourism attraction. This shopping center will provide more income to spend on our schools and police department, our town will flourish with new parks, cleaner streets and free of crimes “Every recession since the late ’50s has been associated with an increase in crime and, in particular, property crime and robbery, which would be most responsive to changes in economic conditions” (Al). This shopping center will create competition among businesses so it will drive prices down, and bring on larger corporation to invest in our new raising economy “Competition is the critical driver of performance and innovation” (AMD).

The investors will generate most of the profit, but let’s examine the big picture. Most of the employees will be supplied by our town therefore raising the socioeconomic status of our subjects, and tourism will not be...
