The black funnel broke out from the high structures of the shipyard revealing the Gearbulk emblem. Pedaling my issued bicycle of the Oshima shipyard, I was astonished as I approached the hull of the ship. gigantic. That’s what my first impression is when I saw the hull of Macuru Arrow. Even so when I boarded the vessel, my legs hurt climbing up the huge craft. I blamed myself not doing enough jogging during my vacation. Admiring the untarnished body of the ship and her spotless structure made me think she is actually sexy in a way. This is one hot momma. In fact, I must have been in love at first sight of her. I had a mixed feeling of excitement and pride and said to myself: “Oh yeah! Is this the one I’m supposed to navigate with? Wowowee!” Everyone is goanna be a newbie to her so I was anxious too. But I assured myself that as long as we team up well and soundly sort everything up, we should work out the challenges ahead. I did not expect that there’s a lot to do when you’re in a new ship. But what the heck, this should serve me well. In time I’m goanna learn also a lot during setting up the vessel from the bottom up to the top. Very few seamen enjoy the luxury of that.
During the familiarization tour I was impressed as to the enhancement of the cargo area. The larger box-type holds and the increased carrying capacity of both cranes, that’s a lot of cargo. This is one big hauler. My assessment on the technology utilized on the ship was a cross of the 4th generation and 5th generation Gearbulk ship. Besides the huge load capability of the crane, I found it more efficient the way they designed the securing system of the gantry. I remember myself pounding the huge bolts and knots of the 5th gen trolley while somebody’s hurrying you up. Relatively speaking (compared to using huge bolts and knots), with the use of hydraulic system on the major securing points it provides improved way of lashing/unlashing the crane during pre-departure and...
