Silky-Smooth Skin
Want smooth, soft skin? Skin so touchable she is waiting for you to finish your shave. That is what Gillette will have you believe. The advertisement I am writing on is a razor blade by Gillette, called “Mach 3 Sensitive”. The ad has a man shaving in the restroom in the center of it. To the left of him is an attractive woman. The whole ad is surrounded by thick white lines with the inside being a mix of dark and light colors. At the bottom-left of the ad is the razor with the statement that it causes less irritation, even on sensitive skin. The bottom-right in the biggest font of the ad, and in bold, is Gillette. The only thing that is in the white borders is the company’s slogan in black letters. It reads “The Best a Man Can Get”.
The intended audience is for men. I found it in the magazine “Men’s Journal”. It is set in the morning, when men perform the daily ritual of shaving. The ad includes an athletic, fit man and a young eye-catching woman. She is leaning at the doorway, looking at him as if she is about to pounce onto him as he shaves. The key features are the couple, the razor, and a blue can of the company’s shave gel. Noticeably the can of shave gel and the mouth wash directly behind it, are the only objects that are not black or white or somewhere on the greyscale. The ad explicitly says “Notice how much she wants to kiss you since you switched razors? You’re welcome.” This is specifically saying that your wife, girlfriend, or love interest in general, will shower you with affection. The viewer can quickly infer the attractive woman is watching and waiting to kiss him. You can see that she has a suggestive smile and lascivious look in her eyes.
The background is mostly dark. Even the hair of the couple is dark in color. The areas of light, brighter colors are where the audiences’ eyes are meant to look. To the left of the ad is the woman, she is wearing a brightly colored robe. The...
