The group that I most associate with are Mexican Americans. Mexicans Americans are off spring of Mexicans that continued building their families in the United States. Mexicans have had it quite rough, not the roughest, but rough none the less. My group made the decision to immigrate to the United States. There were many reasons and contributions to Mexicans wanting to cross the Mexican border to the United States. The discovery of gold, Mexican Revolution, no employment opportunities, poverty, and crime are some just to name a few. Immigration from Mexico to the United States has become a huge controversy and does not seem like it is going to be resolved soon enough for Mexicans to enjoy life in America.
The offset for immigration to the United States was the discovery of gold in the Sierra Nevada of California between 1850 and 1900. Ranching and agriculture then became popular in the northern and central states from Mexico to Texas. By the time 1900 came around, there were approximately 500,000 people living in the United States that were of Mexican descent. The original natives of Mexico then went on to create second-generation Mexican Americans. The Mexican Revolution and the aftermath of the instability of politics caused so many to flee more north. The jobs were not available in Mexico and if they were, the wages were so low no one was able to provide for their families. The wages for the jobs that were available in the United States were slightly better than what they had so generally the idea was to have a better life in America.
The biggest issue Mexicans face in the United States is discrimination. Since there are so many that are not legally able to work in the United States, they are forced to work side jobs that pay under the table. By Mexicans being paid under the table and having no social security card, they cannot file taxes.
