The idea that a company can run without management is completely unfit for success. If a company didn’t have supervisors or managers to help lead employees in the right direction or to train employees how to do a job, the business world as we know it would come to an unpleasing halt. There are different types of managers and they all relate to different people and organizations. If we evaluate how they make a difference in the business world we would see that positive management is necessary for success.
Managers that choose to be team players vs. a dictator seem to make a bigger difference in the effectiveness of the teams they lead. I have seen first-hand how working together changes the attitude of the employees and the work environment. I worked in retail for 2 years and I was part of the management staff. I was taught that being a part of the team means everything when trying to be a team leader. If your staff is uncomfortable with working beside you because you make them nervous, they tend to freeze up and make more mistakes. If you work with them and set the example of how it should be done vs. telling them and then scolding when it is not done as you wished you will find the work environment will become more customer friendly and have more loyal employees. In retail it is important that supervisors make the associates comfortable with what they’re doing. If a customer sees that the work environment is awkward they will be less likely to buy something or come back. Part of the tactic to be team members is to create bonds with the associates and with the customers. Employees like to know there is someone there to help them if they have questions or problems.
Managers who choose to be dictators or authoritarians seem to find their employees in fear of their jobs. This may work for getting the employees to do what they are told, however, they will freeze when the supervisor is over their shoulder and will most likely not really be paying attention to what...
