There are so many teens especially teenage girls that feel pressured to have a "perfect body." What people don't realize is that being yourself is so much more attractive then looking like every one else. Society tears apart confidence of you people, its overwhelming how much pressure there is to be perfect, and studies show that many teenagers especially young girls are self harming themselves to make themselves "perfect" or feel better. Being perfect doesn't have to be being extremely thin. Society creates these unrealistic representations of "perfect" girls with perfect hair, perfect skin, perfect bodies and perfect personalities.
While reading Katherine Schulman's article in New York Times called, "Is there too much pressure on girls to have the perfect body?" This article explains how there are so many different kinds of ways society is telling girls to be perfect like articles in magazines, newspaper, commercials, movies, tv shows, billboards, and other various representation, its driving girls in the wrong direction. More than %80 of teenage girls have shamed themselves for being/ thinking they were fat. There are so many more important things that teenage girls should be worried.. not being fat isn't one of them.
The various ways that society promotes teenage girls to be "perfect" come off as helping girls/ make it so we think that we need this but in reality its hurting more than helping. Most girls are worried about being perfect and quite frankly lose so much self esteem. Studies have shown that girls self esteem drops are the age of 12 and doesn't improve until the age of 20, this shows that its much easier to break them down then it is to build them up. In reality most all these ads showing "perfection" are photoshopped and edited, there is no limit to what they can enhance these days.
