Overview of Procter and Gamble

Procter and Gamble was started in 1837 by two men in Cincinnati, Ohio. William Procter established himself as a candle maker in Cincinnati, and James Gamble as a soap maker. Their paths crossed paths when they married sisters. On April 12, 1837, the two men started making and selling their soap and candles. Four months later, on August 22, they formalized their business by pledging $3,596.47 apiece and started the business Procter and Gamble. By 1859 the two men had increased the sales staff to 80 people, and the sales increased to over $1 million. One of the first trademarked products they sold was Ivory® soap. Ever since then they have been expounding on their product line and offer over 12- billion dollar brands.
