That Used to be US

In the book That Used to be US, Thomas L. Friedman and Michael Mandelbaum described four challenges that we as Americans face. The first of them being the IT Revolution. The It revolution has had a significant impact on my personal business career, as it has provided another avenue to allow my business to be seen by a broader audience then just word of mouth. The IT Revolution has provided many successful businesses with a way to provide the information about his/her business to the proper audience without the audience having to look terribly far for it. Personally my business has strived off of the way social media is setup now. We have built a Facebook and website to really get out information out there to our customers and allow them to see the quality of work that we do. On the flip side the It Revolution has hurt us also as we are a smaller business, a lot of larger companies have the means and resources to provide and push more information into the brains of our city which in turn helps their product/service sell better. In order to minimize the impact that this has on my business in a negative way is the future on technology becoming more and more expensive. Right now the cost of advertising is pretty small especially with social networks such as Facebook and twitter but as more and more of these websites pop up the higher the saturation of the market becomes. Therefore instead of having say 5-10 companies in my area using Facebook as a means of getting information out to the consumer we could possibly see as many has 20-30 which in turn will drive more consumers to start branching off to maybe the not so well known company that has competitive prices. When that happens then my company will have to lower its prices to compete with the market. That will in itself take my monthly to yearly revenue down which hurts my employees in turn.
