a) Describe the main features in the life of Ho Chi Minh
Ho Chi Minh was born on the 19th May 1890 as Nguyen Sinh Cung in the village of Kim Lien, within the Annam province. Ho’s family expressed patriotic pride and heritage through practising traditional customs influenced by their strong Vietnamese beliefs. His early childhood was the development of inspiration and influence he gained from his Father, who was a dedicated nationalist and small time teacher, who later became an imperial magistrate. At an early age Ho followed in the actions of his father by running messages for the anti-French underground and not conforming to French Rule at school resulting in Ho being expelled.
At the age of 21 Ho Chi Minh left home to travel. In 1917 he arrived in Paris where he stayed for 6 years. In 1919 Ho presented a petition listing the claims of the Vietnamese people for Independence to the Versailles Peace Conference but unfortunately the proposal was not acknowledged. In 1920 Ho was introduced to Communism and became a founding member of the French Communist Party gaining valuable political experience, believing strongly that Vietnam should become Independent of France.Ho Chi Minh expressed to the public the problems within Indochina and founded a newspaper called Le Paria, in which Ho’s criticism of colonization’s were represented. As Ho Chi Minh’s ideas and writings reached Vietnam, the French accused him of treason and a death sentence if he may return to Vietnam.
Following the founding of the French Communist Party Ho was sent to Moscow for training and then to China in late 1924 where he established a revolutionary movement between Vietnamese exiles. Ho was forced form authorities to leave China because of his communist activities but returned in 1930 and founded the I.C.P known as the Indochinese Communist Party.
