Nurses work under the supervision of a physician and care for patients. The largest group of nurses work in hospitals where they may be assigned to general operating room, obstetrical ward, or delivering room duty. They may also work in caring for sick shildren, or be assigned to any number of other hospital duties. They may take temperatures administer medication adn hypodermics, change dressings, assist patients with personal care, confer with other members of the medical staff, help prepare a patient for surgery, and complete any number of other duties which require skill and an understanding of parients needs. These are some reasons I think I will be nurse. However, more research is needed.
Most nurses work in immaculately clean environments that are will lighted adn controlled in temperature. They usually work eight hors each day. Hospital nurses usually work any one of three shifts: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m , to 11p.m. to 7 a.m. Nurses spend much of their time on their feet or ether walking or standing. Although many of their duties are routine, emergency situation may arise at any time; sick persons often are demanding of service or they may be depressed or irritable. The nurse must preservea calm manner, adn must be cheerful in order to help the patient achieve emotional balance.
Employment prospects for nurses are good because of the increased demand for health care adn because of the growth of such facilities as nursing homes adn ambulatory care centers. The furure of hospital employment was less rosy in the mid-1980's because federal and state efforts to limit casts could cause outbacks in jobs. Nurses, however, are an integral part ofthe health care team in any station. With better medical services, people are living longer and requiring more medical and nursing care.
