During his campaign, Barack Obama said “I’m asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington…I’m asking you to believe in yours.” As an American, I have seen the country face many struggles and hardships for the past eight years. And being an American, it is my right to decide how I want this country to be governed. It’s time for a change. I supported Barack Obama due to his position on the War in Iraq, the economy, and the health care system. As President, Barack Obama will give new orders to his Secretary of Defense and military commanders to end the War in Iraq. Since March 20, 2003 of when the invasion began, more than 1,000 American soldiers have died. The removal of troops will be done responsibly and in phases. Each month, one to two brigades will safely redeploy out of Iraq. The process will take 16 months, which will be summer 2010. During this redeployment, Obama will encourage Iraqi leaders to take responsibility of their own government and increase stability in Iraq. In the recent years, our country has been facing an economical crisis and Obama has a strategy to strengthen our economy. Upon taking office, Obama plans to jumpstart the economy by providing $50 billion, which will save one million Americans from losing their jobs. $25 billion will go to prevent state and local cuts in health, education, and housing; the other $25 billion will go to prevent cutbacks in road and bridge maintenance and fund school repairs. In addition, Obama will provide a tax cut for working families to restore fairness to the tax code. He will create a new “Making Work Pay” tax credit that will give $500 per person or $1000 per working family. Also, Obama will fight for fair trade policies with other countries by using trade agreements to spread good labor and environmental standards around the world.
