Characters
Hari- is the only son of the family; he has to take the duty of his parents by taking care of his siblings. His life is hard as he has to make decisions an adult would make
Lila- The eldest daughter of the family, she had given up school to help maintain the house and provide food and money for the family

Bela and Kamal-They are the younger sisters of Lila and Hari. The girls, unlike Lila and Hari are still in school, although when they aren’t learning they are helping Lila manage the house

Mother- is the mother of Lila, Hari, Bela and Kamal, although she can’t take care of them nor protect them from her drunken husband as she fell ill with anaemia and was getting weaker and weaker day by day
Father- he is the father of Lila, Hari, Bela and Kamal. He is very irresponsible and drinks from late night to early morning and sleeps all day but occasionally wakes up to scream at his family.He spends all his money on toddy. Although his attitude is bad at first he becomes better later.
Pinto- the pet dog of the family, and is very faithful especially to Lila
Biju- the richest man in the village, he was the first man in the village to own a diesel powered boat. He is proud but very arrogant and he looks down on all the other villagers.
Jagu- is the owner of Sri Krishna Eating house; he also gives Hari a place...
