Many factors of the world we live in can be impediments to learning to have a critical thinking. In other word, we may do something better with thinking critically but it does not happen because too many aspects around us block critical thinking.
Firstly, I think some educational practices discourage the critical thinking, especially for me, it is quite a tough problem. I learn knowledge from text books and teachers and always believe they are true. I have to follow the content they gave since this is the only way to have a good grade in exam. Usually, questions on exams are taken only from what has been covered in class. As a result, I just need remember what teachers say and no need to have a critical thinking. There is only one standard answer in one exam and score in the exam is very important for us in China because we just have one exam in the whole semester and no chance will be left. I don’t know whether it happens in other country, but in China, it is a common phenomenon. For instance, teacher told me angles of a triangle are 180 degree and I had no question about it. I remembered it and solved many math problems with this formula. It seems like it is not necessary to have critical thinking. Gradually, critical thinking disappears in my study. Some educational practices are really impediments for me.
Secondly, the impediment of TV is also a big problem for me. Some televisions always recommend some good movies and books. They just show good parts of the movie and book on the screen and also many famous stars support it. I could not resist this recommendation and always to watch the movies. I once have an idea that many famous people in favor of this film and think this is one of the most brilliant films in the world, so I also think it is a good film. I just follow others’ opinion. It impedes me a lot.
