Globalization has revolutionized the way business is conducted worldwide. Barriers to Markets once untouchable, have now opened their doors and many companies have taken this opportunity to expand into those markets in order to gain competitive edge. In large, globalization has helped emerging markets such as Brazil, Russia, China, and India, to bring their country’s impoverished population up to a decent standard of living.
The main challenge for many organizations as they expand into these markets is how to how to attract and manage global talent along with the sizable consideration that needs to be given to the cultures and business operations of these foreign countries that have now become a prerequisite for Global Human Resources Management (GHRM).
Global Human Resource Management
Global human resource management is the management of human resources of multinational firms in foreign subsidiaries and the impact of the host country’s cultural differences, laws and regulations on the organization’s human resource management strategy. The HR strategies that management must undertake and support to create a successful global presence to insure the success of an organization in meeting its goals are: Create a local appeal without compromising upon the global identity; Generating awareness of cross cultural sensitivities among managers globally and hiring of staff across geographic boundaries; Training upon cultures and sensitivities of the host country (MSG experts, n.d.).
The strategic role of Human resources Management in such a scenario is to ensure that HRM policies are in tandem with and in support of the firm’s strategy, structure and controls.
