Our society today is incessantly being bombarded with arguments against or for homosexual marriage. Whether on the television, in the newspaper, in magazines, or any other media source, you are almost always guaranteed to hear about it. Homosexuals can be heard speaking of how they deserve equal rights just like everyone else, when in fact; they have the same rights as all Americans. They have the ability to go out and marry anyone of the opposite sex of their choosing, just as heterosexual people do. Those of us who desire to be with someone of the opposite sex do not have the right to change our minds and marry the same gender. What homosexuals are asking for is extra rights.
Until the 1850’s homosexuality was thought of as a mental disorder. Doctors and psychologists could find no logical reasoning behind someone being physically attracted to a person of the same sex, unless there was some chemical imbalance in their brains. Homosexuals have sworn up and down that they were born that way, that it was never their choice, and it is not a disease. What about those of them that have been known to date the opposite sex at some point in their lives? Did they not choose their own decisions to try something different? No one is making the choice for them. If it isn’t a mental disorder of some sort, then it is simply a choice.
The fact is, we are all born with free will which allows us to do what we want with our lives. Whether gay or straight, we can all pick who we want to share our love with and we should never have to answer to anyone. Marriage is sacred though, and is meant to be a union between two people of the opposite sex. That is how it has always been, and that is how it should always be. If homosexuals were meant to be married, why is there even a law that needs to be overturned? There is a law though, because it is wrong and history should not be changed. What is next, we should be allowed to marry our pets? Some things should just never be permitted,...
