This paper will discuss the differences between the colonies of Virginia and Massachusetts in colonial America. I will discuss the differences between the early peoples who migrated to each colony as well as their relations with the Native Americans in the region. Additionally I will discuss the reasons each migrated to the new world. I will also discuss the economic, government and social differences in the regions.

Comparisons and contrasts of the Colonies of Virginia and Massachusetts
During the early migration to America, the immigrants came for very different reasons. Some came searching for their fortune, while others came to discover a land where they could practice their religion without fear of persecution. In order to understand the differences between the northern and southern colonies of early America we must understand the differences of the people, their economy and their relations with the Native Americans of their regions.
The people of the Southern regions first immigrated in 1607. These early colonists were gentlemen adventurers who were not accustomed to hard work. The result was too few workers and therefore severe manpower problems. The problem of recruiting labor became another major issue. Captain Smith the Governor of the colony corrected the problem of men not pulling their weight by banishing them to the wilderness.
The main problem was that the early colonists were there to make a profit. They believed that they would profit from the discovery of gold and other precious minerals in the region. They were disappointed when they found neither in the area. They were also unable to refine their trade with the Indians of the region to support their needs. An...
