Earning a Ph.D. and getting really high scores doesn’t means that the person is the smartest or that he or she can control everything. A person may be very intelligent but not be above everyone else. Joy who change her name to Hulga is a woman at her thirties, she beliefs nothing but herself. Hulga with her personality made people who surround her, avoid her. The only person, who enters Hulga life, led her into a trap of her own making. One of the reasons that made hulga the person she is; was the fact that she had a disease that at age forties she would die sooner or later. That is something that if we think about it for a moment, and summarized that we have to live our life to the best until that day the doctor told us we are going to die. Of course we are going to decontrol ourselves. Another fact that change her entirely life was that she lost her leg when she was ten she was hunting she got shoot in her leg and got replaced with a wooden leg, however; O’Connor gives the impression that joy really takes pride and puts faith and will in her wooden leg.
