Proposal for Configuration of ACL

Introduction

The network that was previously installed for Martin Buldings Supplies requires a few more security issues to be created because the company has discovered that a commonly used web server has recently been a source of viruses and some members of staff have been using FTP to download material, which is in breech of copyright. So, the company requires to block the access to the www/ftp server.

Equipment specification

Current equipment is adequate and there is no need additional equipment.

Installation procedure

Installation is not required.

Network specification

Each side of the network (Scotbuild, Martin Plant) have multiple numbers of PCs.

ACL specification

To restrict the access to the www/ftp server is to create the Access Control List (ACL). The ACL is a way of filtering the data packets that pass through a router’s interface. The ACL will decide whether or not data passes through the router’s port.
To create the ACL needs to be open up a program called HyperTerminal and then set up the ACL in Global Mode (Router(config)#) by typing ACL commands.

Configuration

It is necessary to create three ACLs because the access to the www/ftp server and Scotbuild’s ftp and Martin Plant’s ftp should be denied.

The first ACL should be placed on the Martin Plant’s router on the FastEthernet0 port and the access to the Scotbuild’s ftp should be denied. The ACL will be applied to in-bound traffic.All other traffic should be allwed.

The second ACL should be placed on the Scotbuild‘s router on the FastEthernet0 port and the access to the Martin Plant‘s ftp should be denied. The ACL will be applied to in-bound traffic. All other traffic should be allowed.
