Tennis is the most popular individual sport in the world. Whether you are looking for a new sport, or just going out and playing for fun one time, playing tennis is an easy and fun sport to learn how to play. Today I will teach you the three basic shots in tennis, the serve, forehand, and backhand.
I will start with the serve, which starts each point. To serve, you stand behind the service line and hit it into the box on the opposite side. In a serve you will hold the racquet in your dominant hand. With the other, you toss the ball straight up. Next, bend your back and knees as soon as the ball is in the air. Hit the ball in the center of your racquet. Don’t only use the power from your arm to hit the ball, use the power from straightening your back and knees. After your serve, you will need to know what to do next.
Second, I will teach you one way to hit the ball, the forehand. You use a forehand to return a ball hit your dominant hand side. You begin by gripping the racquet with your dominant hand. Second, step forward with your foot on your other side. While doing this you twist your torso, putting your arm behind you. To hit the ball, turn your body back to propel the ball back over the net. Once again, you want to hit the ball in the center of the strings.
Last, I will teach you what to do when the ball is hit to your other side. This is when you use your backhand. You will grip your backhand by keeping your dominant hand towards the bottom of the handle. Then, place your other hand above the first. Second, step forward with your dominant side and twist your body putting the racquet behind you. Last, when the ball gets to you, twist your body back, while hitting the ball. The power from the twisting of your waist will add to the regular power of your swing.
In conclusion, the three basic shots you need to know to play tennis are the serve, forehand, and backhand.
