Diversity in the Workplace
When a person hears workplace diversity this opens up a topic that many industries and organizations spend an enormous amount of time and training on in order to ensure its presence. Today's workforce has more diversity in it than it has ever had in the past 40 years. While the workforce has made many strides towards the direction of equality, it is still far from attaining that in the workplace. As a company, diversity is a must. The main focus of understanding diversity includes awareness, education and positive recognition of the differences among people in the workplace. With so many different agencies increasing or emphasizing teamwork this is a source of competitive advantage within a diverse workforce.

As most companies and their surrounding conditions must be able to allow differences to be celebrated instead of only tolerated. All workers must understand the competitive and moral advantages of many different kinds of people. They must respect and support many different kinds of people through the recognition of cultural instances such as following religious customs and practices. The world today is not what it once was and not yet where it should be. In an ideal world, every person is treated equally when it comes to receiving a job, advancing in their career and being treated fairly in the workplace. In reality, everyone knows that is not the case. Unfortunately, in our reality unfair treatment is subjected to someone’s individual gender, race, culture, ethnic origin and lifestyle. These discriminations still exist in salary decisions, hiring, firing and promotions as well.
