INTRODUCTION
EBay is an online shopping website in which individual and companies can buy and sell various goods and services worldwide. French-Iranian immigrant Pierre Omidyar launched eBay (short for electronic Bay area) in 1995. Within a year the site had exploded, hosting 15,000 auctions daily and logging two million hits per week. eBay motto is “We believe people are basically good,” eBay facilitated open and honest communication, both amongst users themselves, and between users and the company. It is The World’s Online Marketplace which created a powerful platform for the sale of goods and services by an enthusiastic community of individuals and businesses. The customers and community have significant influence for any changes in eBay expanding and evolving. There are millions of items across thousand of categories for sale on eBay for example article of clothing, book, laptop, PC, Diamond ring, motorcycle, car and many more. The bread-and-butter of the business was the “collectible” category. It offers a wide variety of features and services that enable members to buy and sell on the site quickly and conveniently. Buyers have the option to purchase item in auction-style format or items can be purchased at fixed price through a feature called Buy-It-Now. Furthermore, items at fixed price are also available at Half.com, an eBay company. In addition, eBay also offers the payment service PayPal to ensure quick and safe money transfers. EBay’s main source of revenue are from listing, collectibles, Buy-It-Now, Half.com, international operations, advertising, as well as paid fees on transactions which include both fees collected from the selling part and from the usage of PayPal.
