The Great Depression is often referred to as a plain economic crash that lasted from around the 1930s to the 1940s, but in reality; the Great Depression means much more, it meant the destruction of hopes, dreams and even the lives of countless people, even though a minority of the people actually used the Great Depression to their advantage. Majority of the people’s wealth vanished with the fall of the banks, dreams were brutally shattered and the fire of hope was hard to light. People were forced to rely on their neighbor’s help in the time of crisis and some people broke down completely being completely helpless in living in that time of chaos. The Great Depression affected many farmers as well as many different people and different businesses, mostly in a negative way, yet others used the Great Depression to its advantage and benefitted from the event that bought countless people on their knees.
During the Great Depression, farmers all over the United States were dealt a hard blow and lived a harsh life. This may perhaps be linked to 1926 where the article 1930s Bowl Dust stated that:
Wheat was a real good thing. The world needed it and was paying a good price for it. Wheat farmers with tractors, one way plows and combines purchased by
most farmers after the phenomenal crop of 1926, began plowing and planting wheat as never before. The lands were planted to wheat year after year without a thought as to the damage that was being done. Grasslands that should have never been plowed were plowed up. Millions of acres of farm land in the Great Plains were broken. (1930s Dust Bowl)
By 1931, there was roughly about 12 million wheat bushels planted, and as the people in 1930s Dust Bowl calculated the prices of wheat went “from sixty-eight cents/bushel in July 1930 to twenty-five cents/bushel in July 1931”(1930’s Dust Bowl). This left some of the farmers broke. Some even...
