Electronic Cigarettes have long been an interesting topic to me because I have wanted to know what the benefits of them are. Do they really aid in helping a person stop smoking the traditional cigarette?
Description of the Electronic Cigarette
Electric cigarettes are, according to (drugabuse.gov, 2015), a battery-operated device that delivers individuals nicotine and other chemicals through vapor instead of the usual smoke associated with regular cigarettes. There are more than 250 different e-cigarette brands on the market as of today (drugabuse.gov, 2015). Are electronic cigarettes less harmful than regular cigarettes?

Science that drove the electronic cigarette
The first person to have an idea about the electronic cigarette was in 1963 when Mr. Herbert A. Gilbert filed a patent for his idea (everclear.com, 2015). The filing of the patent was not enough to keep moving forward with an invention. If there had been a sufficient amount of believers in his idea that smoking was bad for a person’s health in the 60’s, it’s possible that an invention could have been created then.
Forty years after Mr. Gilbert’s idea, in the year 2003, the electronic cigarette was developed by a pharmacist named Hon Lik in Beijing, China. He came up with the idea after his father who was a cigarette smoker passed away from cancer (casaa.org, 2015).
Application of the electronic cigarette

Electronic cigarettes are a cartridge that has liquid containing different chemicals, such as nicotine and flavorings, a heating device that produces vapor and a battery (druabuse.gov, 2015). The electronic cigarette can be used as a tool to help individuals who smoke quit smoking. The e-cigarettes are refillable.
