Gay and Lesbian Marriage
Gay and lesbian marriage is one of the most controversial issues in today's world. “Should it be allowed?” is the question that always comes to mind. Marriage should be a union involving two people and should have nothing to do with gender. The most important thing about marriage is love and people should be able to marry who they choose despite personal classification. Denying gay and lesbian marriage is a form of discrimination which goes against two individuals' civil right to love who they choose and it limits the amount of healthy homes available to children.
Not allowing two individuals who love one another the right to marry is against civil rights granted through the U.S Constitution. The Constitution prohibits discrimination against sex, race, origin, religion and other factors. As stated in the 14th amendment, “No state can deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of any laws.” Equal protection includes the civil right to marry the person of ones choice. No matter if a person is homosexual or heterosexual we are all human. Therefore, same-sex couples are entitled to the same rights as those of heterosexual couples.
The issue between gay and lesbian marriages has really affected the way society thinks. This issue poses a serious social issue in the world today. Many people believe that gay and lesbian marriage can have a negative effect on the new generation(the children). But one thing people must understand is its not only gay couples that have problems in their relationships. The man and women who abuse each other as well as those who rape their kids are the unstable type of people who should not be able to get married. However a happy home does not revolve around gender but around love. A healthy household can be put together with the opposite or same sex parents. Children need people who love them and can make them feel safe in their environment no matter what the circumstances may be....
