While working on the group communication competencies questionnaire, I started reading question to question and came to a conclusion that every question provided is extremely important when working with a group. I cannot see myself doing any less than what the survey provided because in the end if the team fails I fail. When I am with a group, I like to take the lead role sometimes because in my mind I have a lot of creative thoughts I like to put to use. Sometimes taking the lead is a good thing because it helps others out in the group to come up with other great ideas they would like to use. Within a group, there is always going to be someone lacking on their part, and it is my duty to encourage them to try harder. There are going to be disagreements within a group but in order for everyone to come out on top, everyone has to be on the same page. Not having positive communication in the group can cause misunderstanding, creating a fretful work environment.
In the past groups, I have been the one to get angry easily when something does not go the way I like it. I thought I could just do the work for others who are not pulling their weight in the group. I quickly found out it was not a good idea but I have learned to control my anger problem because it is not only about me. Some ways I can improve my competency is to listen more and have understanding of others feeling and the way they view things. Stop waiting to the last minute to do my part of the assignment because I can be a big procrastinator. Procrastinating on a group assignment only leaves the group upset and scrambling around on how to finish your part. So from now on, I am working on me to become a better person for everyone who is around me.
