Since the Industrial Revolution in 19th century, technology develops faster and faster with each year. It is present in every area of our lives, and has great impact on both society and environment. The question is: Is that impact positive or negative?
Some say, technology has made the world a better place. We cannot imagine our lives without cars, computers or washing machines. Machines make our lives easier, doing things that would take us a lot of time. For example, cars are produced much faster and efficient by machines than humans. People can spend their time on more intellectual work if manual jobs are done by machines, which do them faster and more efficient. Also, there is no risk of people hurting themselves while doing dangerous jobs.
The other positive thing about technology is, information is available to almost anyone, in any time or any place. The Internet is a great source of information of any kind. You can do almost anything on a computer: write homework, play a game, talk to a friend, et cetera. People from distant countries can communicate easily. Also, with modern methods of transportation, distances are not as big as they were before.
However, with all the good things technology brings, come some bad consequences. If machines do jobs in a factory, a lot of people lose their jobs. Machines are cheaper – they only have to be paid once, and can do their job for decades. They don’t need vacation, or insurance. Factories, along with cars, brought on one of the biggest issues of nowadays - pollution. Global warming and acid rains are just some aspects of it, and they cause great damage to the environment.
Another negative thing is, people get lazier while machines do their former jobs. Since everything is available on the Internet, some of them do not feel the need to go out of their houses and communicate with other people face to face.
