Purpose Statement: To inform my audience about hookahs. How to properly put one together and how hookah smoking works.
Thesis Statement: To understand hookahs, it’s important to know how to set up a hookah, be knowledgeable about hookah smoking, and know how a hookah works.
Attention Getter: In southwest Asia you rarely see a cigarette, but what you will see is all kinds of hookahs. They are made in different sizes, with different material, different patterns and assembled with custom parts.
Overview of Main Points: Today I am going to talk to you about Hookahs. How to put a hookah together and also how hookah smoking works.
(I’m not really big on hookah smoking but I thought this would be a interesting topic.)
I. I brought my hookah back with me from my deployment.
A. Hookah smoking isn’t really a safer way to smoke.
B. People often smoke hookah for fun.
1. Hookah is also known as shisha.
2. Tobacco is used to smoke hookah.
(A hookah is made up of usually 5-7 parts.)
II. With most hookahs you can add and take away parts depending of what you like.
A. You have the hookah base which is usually the largest part on the hookah.
1. You also have the stem which goes into the base of the hookah.
2. In most hookahs there is a design or may be a plain attachment from the stem to hose.
a. My hookah has one hose, but in other hookahs you can put up to four hoses on one hookah.
b. You put the tobacco in the tobacco cup and cover with foil to put your coal on.
B. Underneath the tobacco and coal cup you have the ash plate.
(Now that you know about the parts and what goes where let me tell you how this works.)
III. All the smoke is generated from the bottom.
A. When you pull air in from the hose it pulls heat from the coals at the top that goes down pass the tobacco into the stem.
B. With the ice and water being in the base it forms and cool thick smoke.
