Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg.He introduced Facebook while he was a student at Harvard University. The website's name refers to the paper facebooks depicting members of a campus community that some US colleges give to incoming students and staff to get to know other people on campus.
The enrollment of Facebook was initially only given to Harvard students, but was extended to other universities. It then extended further to comprise any graduate school student, then high school students, and, finally, to anyone aged above 13.
